| MOLEX ETC SOLDERLESS TERMINALS | 04/26/2003 at 3:13PM by Randy | | |
| | Quick Disconnects
Quick Disconnects (QDs) are female terminals that mate with male tab terminals, tab adapters, and terminal blocks fitted with male tabs. The terminal itself is constructed of tin-plated brass, per NEMA specifications. QDs can be fully insulated, non-insulated, or partially insulated. The insulators are either molded vinyl (PVC), extruded nylon, or molded nylon.

Molex has over 7000 cross referenced parts in our Competitor P/N Cross Reference System:

Several different products make up the Quick Disconnect family:

 Fully Insulated Male Quick Disconnects
These fully insulated male Quick Disconnects are precision engineered, allowing the terminal to fit precisely into a female. This "splice" may be connected and disconnected without damage to the nylon insulation. The parts come in loose piece and on continuous carrier.

 AviKrimp Fully Insulated Quick Disconnects
This is our top of the line Quick Disconnect. It is made of a Krimptite terminal with a brass sleeve on the barrel, and then completely insulated with a molded nylon housing. So you get all the benefits of an Avikrimp QD, plus it is fully insulated. Avikrimp Fully Insulated Quick Disconnects (FIQD) are fully licensed by TUV and tested to various VDE, IEC and DIN specifications.

 Flags
This type of product is used when there is a space constraint, and a regular straight Quick Disconnect is too large. They are available in insulated and non-insulated versions.

 Piggyback Quick Disconnects
Piggybacks can be used when multiple connections (also called piggyback) are required and there are a limited number of male tabs. The piggyback actually allows another QD to be connected to its tab and then the piggyback is connected to a tab.

 Snap Plugs and Receptacles
These devices are available in both insulated and non-insulated versions. They are used in a variety of applications where a "quick disconnect" connection is needed, but there is not enough space for a normal QD coupler. The snap plug is a round bullet-like terminal that plugs or "snaps" into the female receptacle. Like a coupler set, the male and female pieces can be connected and disconnected many times.

 PCB Tabs
Molex offers a large selection of standard PCB-mountable Quick Disconnect terminals. Some products offer a tab support mounting feature, which provides increased mounting reliability and terminal strength. Both strip applied and loose piece packaging are available. All products can be easily inserted into printed circuit boards using widely available, industry standard bench-type, and fully automated XY insertion tooling. Products are available in both vertical and right angle mounting configurations, are manufactured to NEMA specifications, and are UL and CSA recognized.

 Splices
Molex-ETC offers standard and special splices for nearly every type of wiring need.

Butt Splice Nylon Closed-End Connector Multi-Lock
Stripped wires are inserted from each end and "butt" in the center. Then a crimp at each end secures the connection. Used in a wide variety of situations to "pigtail" or tie together 2 or more wires. These color-coded connectors make quick, reliable and pre-insulated splices without stripping, twisting, soldering or the need for special tools.

Step Down Butt Splice Funnel Entry Butt Splice Parallel Splice
The Step Down Butt Splice is the perfect solution when 2 wires need to be inserted in one end of a splice and a single wire in the other end. In the past, the crimping of machine terminated butt splices has been difficult and nearly impossible if attempted on a piece of robotic equipment. Now, with our new Funnel Entry Butt Splice, the end that will be crimped by the crimping press is funneled to allow quick and easy wire insertion. Stripped wires lie side-by-side in the splice and are secured by a single crimp in the middle.

AVIKRIMP® Butt Splice Wire Tap Window Butt Splice
With the extra metal sleeve and nylon insulation, these splices should be used when heavy vibration is anticipated and a strong strain relief is needed. The quick and easy way to splice into a wire. QPL'd to Mil-T-7928/5

 Tongue Styles
 Ring Spade
The basic tongue type. It is the safest and most reliable because it cannot be disconnected unless the screw is completely removed. The open tongue end is for rapid insertion on the mounting screw. The spade is usually used on free standing studs.

 Block Spade Snap Spade
This tongue style is similar to the spade. However, note the longer and flatter sides. Block Spades are designed for use in terminal blocks. The spring-like tongue snaps around the screw like a Quick Disconnect and the terminal is locked into place until the mounting screw can be tightened down.

 Flanged Spade Hook
The turned up edges give this spade more safety and reliability. The flanges also give both a location and locking action that aid greatly in installation. This tongue type combines the security advantage of the ring with the easy-handling characteristics of the spade.

 Star Ring
This tongue style is a ring with serrated edges that bite into the applied surface insuring a good connection or ground.

| SMA CONNECTORS | 04/26/2003 at 1:46PM by Randy | | |
| | SMA is an acronym for SubMiniature version A and was developed in the 1960's. It uses a threaded interface. 50 Ω SMA connectors are semi-precision, subminiature units that provide excellent electrical performance from DC to 18 GHz. These high-performance connectors are compact in size and mechanically have outstanding durability. For phase array radar, test equipment, ILS landing systems and other instrumentation using phase matching techniques, these SMA connectors for semi-rigid coaxial cables and the SMA Plug-to-Jack adapter offer a precise and simple means of phase adjustment for microwave devices. Built in accordance with MIL-C-39012 and CECC 22110/111, SMA connectors can be mated with all connectors that meet these spec mating diameters regardless of manufacturer.

SMA is available both in Standard and Reverse Polarity. Reverse polarity is a keying system accomplished with a reverse interface, and ensures that reverse polarity interface connectors do not mate with standard interface connectors. Amphenol accomplishes this by inserting female contacts into plugs and male contacts into jacks. Other manufacturers may use reverse threading to accomplish reverse polarity keying.

| AMPHENOL N CONNECTORS | 04/26/2003 at 1:42PM by Randy | | |
| | Named after Paul Neill of Bell Labs after being developed in the 1940's, the Type N offered the first true microwave performance. The Type N connector was developed to satisfy the need for a durable, weatherproof, medium-size RF connector with consistent performance through 11 GHz.
There are two families of Type N connectors: Standard N (coaxial cable) and Corrugated N (helical and annular cable). Their primary applications are the termination of medium to miniature size coaxial cable, including RG-8, RG-58, RG-141, and RG-225. RF coaxial connectors are the most important element in the cable system. Corrugated copper coaxial cables have the potential to deliver all the performance your system requires, but they are often limited by the performance of the connectors.

Intermodulation distortion, a major concern in today's communications systems, is consistently low with corrugated cable connectors. Typical performance is -125 dBm (-168 dBdc). In-house IMD measurement capability gives Amphenol the unique ability to understand the effects of connector design elements on IMD generation and to design the best performing connectors in the industry. Self-flaring designs are easily attached with standard hand tools in the field, and are highly resistant to pull off and twist off. All corrugated cable connectors are optimally matched to their cables for low VSWR and insertion loss.

 Features & Benefits

Accommodates a wide range of medium to miniature-sized RG coaxial cables in a rugged medium-sized design

Broad line of Military (M39012), Industrial (UG) and Commercial (RFX) grade products available, giving customers choices in weighing cost versus performance benefits

Meets many customer application demands with plug styles available in straight and right angle and jack styles available in panel mount, bulkhead mount, and receptacle

| AMPHENOL TNC CONNECTORS | 04/26/2003 at 1:41PM by Randy | | |
| | Developed in the late 1950's, the TNC stands for Threaded Neill Concelman and is named after Amphenol engineer Carl Concelman. Designed as a threaded version of the BNC, the TNC series features screw threads for mating. TNC are miniature, threaded weatherproof units with a constant 75 Ω impedance and they operate from 0 - 11 GHz. There are two types of TNC connectors: Standard and Reverse Polarity.

| Amphenol BNC RF Cconnectors | 04/26/2003 at 1:35PM by Randy | | |
| | Developed in the late 1940’s as a miniature version of the Type C connector, BNC stands for Bayonet Neill Concelman and is named after Amphenol engineer Carl Concelman. The BNC product line is a miniature quick connect/disconnect RF connector. It features two bayonet lugs on the female connector; mating is achieved with only a quarter turn of the coupling nut. BNC’s are ideally suited for cable termination for miniature to subminiature coaxial cable (RG-58, 59, to RG-179, RG-316, etc.)
Amphenol 50 Ω BNC connectors are miniature, lightweight units designed to operate up to 11 GHz and typically yield low reflection through 4 GHz. Designed to accommodate a large variety of RG and industry standard cables, BNC connectors are available in crimp/crimp, clamp/solder, SURETWIST®, and field serviceable termination styles. A full line of printed circuit board receptacles, bulkhead receptacles, resistor terminations, and other accessories complement the product offering.

A variety of our 50 Ω BNC connectors are recognized under the Component program of Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc. These connectors are ideal for use with medical equipment and test instrumentation where safety cannot be compromised.

Amphenol also offers a full line of 75 Ω BNC connectors to meet the needs for higher performance impedance-matched cable interconnections. These connectors can be used in a variety of applications where true 75 Ω performance is needed to insure low signal distortion. Designed for the most popular 75 Ω cables used in broadcast and CATV applications as well as for plenum and other cables, these connectors feature crimp-crimp cable affixment for quick and reliable installation.

Two distinct types of 75 Ω BNCs are available, and both mate with each other and with 50 Ω BNCs. Type 1 is designated 75 Ω BNC-T1 and provides constant 75 Ω performance with low VSWR DC – 4 GHz. Type 2 is designated 75 Ω BNC-T2 and is usable with low reflection DC - 1 GHz. For applications above 1 GHz, Type 1 is recommended.

Part numbers that are listed with the appropriate M39012 number are military grade connectors produced in accordance with and actively qualified to the military specification MIL-C-39012. Connectors not listed with the M39012 number constitute the industrial grade product offering. These connectors provide comparable performance and generally feature nickel-plated brass bodies, Teflon insulators, and either gold or silver-plated center contacts. Amphenol’s commercial grade connector offering carries the part number designation “RFX” for easy recognition. These low-cost connectors typically utilize die cast and molded components. While performance will not be equal to the industrial or military grade products, these connectors are ideal for use on a variety of commercial applications.

Reverse Polarity BNCs are also available.
